(«Spring is coming and bringing grass and flowers to the valley»):
this is the beginning of one of the Bregaglia songs of Calendarmarz, still sung today by children to call spring and chase away winter. The handmade paper flowers that adorn clothing, hats and flags are a prelude to what awaits us after 1 March – provided the children have succeeded with their songs! In Castasegna, the southernmost village in the valley, the green meadows are blooming, the gardens are embellished with yellow daffodils and forsythia, and the fruit trees are covered in white and pink. Some rare, more Mediterranean or exotic plants, such as magnolias, are making their way into our area and delighting passers-by with their first buds. As you drive up the road to Maloja, the contrast becomes more and more pronounced, reminding us each time of the great diversity that this small area has to offer.
