Mountain Bike
Trough forests and alpine pastures
In Bregaglia you can cycle along historical tracks, through thick forests in the shade of pine trees or ride on gravel roads between flowering meadows passing ancient chestnut woods and a magnificent waterfall.
From Maloja to Castasegna the challenging and signed mountain bike route "Maloja Express" offers a fantastic opportunity to cross the valley on small mountain roads. This route is recommended downhill only and can be extended until the town of Chiavenna, Italy.
For those who would like to make a slightly quieter excursion, pausing to visit the picturesque villages of Bregaglia and sampling some of the local places in between, we recommend staying on one of the many gravel roads that connect the villages of the valley. A nice afternoon ride starts from Castasegna passing under the waterfall of Stroll up to the hamlet of Plazza, from here you cycle up to Soglio and then down the cantonal road to Promontogno crossing the village of Bondo and back to Castasegna on the other side of the valley.
In Maloja, cyclists can reach the small alpine lake of Cavloc on their bikes or ride on the entire network of bike paths in the Upper Engadine. You reach Sils via the alpine pastures Ca d'Sternam and Petpreir on the Schweiz Mobil Route 1. We do not recommend the path along the Lake Sils via Isola, as pedestrians have priority on the busy Isola - Sils section and the path is very narrow.
