The Valley of Art
Birthplace of the Giacomettis
This valley with its enchanted forests, rugged, mighty mountains and quiet villages has inspired painters, writers and poets for centuries. This is where the Giacomettis - whose most famous representative was Alberto - spent their childhood. The wildness of the valley also attracted other artists like Giovanni Segantini or Varlin and became their adopted home. The special light of this southern Grisons valley fascinated again and again and urged to be captured on canvas. But sculptors, craftsmen and writers - including the poet Rainer Maria Rilke - were also enchanted by the austere charm of this region and paid their respects.
But even today, painters, sculptors and skilful craftsmen are still in Bergell, cultivating the region with their works of art.
Every year in April opens the beginning of the summer season the ARTipasto cultural Bregagliotto, an overview in the design of the artistic and cultural offer of the valley.
